The Maverick is about a foot shorter and has a five-inch shorter wheelbase than the Ranger, but it has more interior space. The smaller pickup boasts 1.5 inches more back legroom, the same amount of hip and shoulder room, and nearly four inches greater total passenger volume. This is due to the fact that the platform is newer and the packaging is unique.
Despite its diminutive size, the inside feels larger than it is because of innovative design elements like the scalloped door panels. The back seat bottom opens up to reveal secret under-seat storage, just like the larger F-150, and the lofty roofline provides plenty of headroom. In the back of a Maverick cab, an adult will be more comfortable than in a four-door Ranger.
The Ford Ranger is coming back to the United States in 2019, but it’s nothing like my friend’s father’s truck. The Maverick is who he is.
