The S3 is equipped with a 306-hp 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine, a seven-speed automatic transmission, and Audi’s Quattro all-wheel-drive system as standard. We loved the S3’s light handling and thought its powerplant to be snappy, energetic, and sonorous during our initial test drive.

We did notice that the S3’s heavy steering lacks feedback and that there is significant turbo lag while driving in the less frantic Comfort mode. The S3 hit 60 mph in 4.3 seconds and finished the quarter-mile in 12.9 seconds at 108 mph on our test track.

Interior

The cabin of the S3 is largely identical to that of the new 2022 A3, with the exception of sports seats with a quilted leather insert and a flat-bottomed steering wheel. The S3 also gets the same toggle-switch gear selection as the A3.

However, the S3 comes standard with a more complete set of equipment, including a panoramic sunroof, three-zone automatic temperature control, and illuminated door jamb scuff plates. The trunk is smaller in this latest-generation automobile, but the passenger room is slightly larger.
