New Toyota Land Cruiser Prado Matte Black Edition Launches in Japan. Toyota debuted the Land Cruiser Matt Black Edition for Europe last month, and now the carmaker has applied the same treatment to the JDM-spec Land Cruiser Prado, dubbed the Package Matt Black Edition. The special edition is a follow-up to last year’s 70th anniversary.

The SUV is marginally more elegant in the Matt Black Edition, which may be the final outing for the 13-year-old current generation model until the all-new Prado arrives next year. Changes are confined to the exterior and interior trim, as expected.

The matte black treatment on the grille, headlamp garnish, roof rails, mirror caps, tailgate details, and the 18-inch alloy wheels shod in 265/60R18 tires set the Package Matt Black Edition apart from the rest of the Japanese lineup. The LED headlights are self-levelling, and the mirrors fold electrically.

Exterior

Black leather upholstery, wood inserts on the dashboard, a 9-inch infotainment touchscreen with navigation and TV, and a six-speaker audio system are all standard features. The SUV comes in five-seater (two-row) and seven-seater (three-row) configurations. Although adaptive cruise control is included in the Toyota Safety Sense suite, blind spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert are optional upgrades.

In contrast to the EU-spec Land Cruiser 150 Series, which is exclusively available with a diesel engine, customers in Japan have an option between diesel and petrol engines. Thus, the Matt Black Edition is available with either the 2.8-litre turbodiesel, which produces 201 horsepower (150 kW / 204 PS) and 500 Nm (368.8 lb-ft) of torque or the 2.7-litre petrol, which has 161 hp (120 kW / 163 PS) and 246 Nm (181 lb-ft) of torque. Both cases send power to all four wheels via a six-speed automatic transmission.

Interior

Unlike the EU-spec Land Cruiser 150 Series, which is exclusively available with a diesel engine, purchasers in Japan can choose between diesel and petrol engines. Thus, the Matt Black Edition is available with either a 2.8-litre turbodiesel providing 201 horsepower (150 kW / 204 PS) and 500 Nm (368.8 lb-ft) of torque or 2.7-litre petrol producing 161 hp (120 kW / 163 PS) and 246 Nm (181 lb-ft) of torque. Power is supplied to all four wheels in both cases via a six-speed automatic transmission.
