Audi officials have hinted that the PB18 concept could be produced as a flagship electric supercar.
The design was first shown at the Pebble Beach auto show in the summer and is based on both of the brand’s previous LMP1 racers. The PB18 e-tron is 4.53 metres long, 2 metres wide, and 1.15 metres tall, with a cab-forward design similar to the Audi R8, but with extended bodywork to give it the impression of a shooting brake.
Andreas Mindt, Audi’s head of exterior design, told us at the LA Motor Show that he wants to see the car produced. “We’re pushing like hell,” Mindt exclaimed. “We’re the engine in this, and we want it.”
The Audi PB 18 e-Tron package is built around the traditional architecture of a mid-engine sports car with a far-forward cab. The car’s centre of gravity lies behind the seats and ahead of the back axle, which improves the car’s handling. The battery pack, rather than the engine-transmission unit, is involved in an automobile with a traditional drive system.
